Militants kill pro-govt tribal elder in Bajaur
KHAR: Militants shot dead a prominent pro-government tribal leader and seriously wounded three people on Monday at Shandani Mor in Bajaur Agency. According to sources, the incident took place around 8am near Jinnah Bus Terminal at Khar when militants waiting on the roadside opened indiscriminate fire on Malik Shahjehan Khan, a prominent tribal leader and the Mamoond tribe’s sardar, while he was travelling in his car with a friend, Malik Muhammad Ayaz Khan, and driver Bismillah Khan.
Sources said a passerby, Ajab Khan, was also hit and injured. They said the injured were immediately rushed to the Khar agency headquarters hospital where Malik Shahjehan later died. They said Malik Ayaz and Bismillah were later taken to a hospital in Peshawar. Sources said no one had accepted responsibility of the attack yet, adding that the political administration was investigating the incident. The slain tribal chief had opposed the presence of foreign militants in Bajaur Agency and had survived several previous attacks, reported AP.
