Robbery cum murder in Karachi
KARACHI: A 50-year-old cashier of a private firm, who was on way to his office on the Sharea Faisal after withdrawing cash from a nearby bank, was shot dead on Monday by two bandits who decamped with nearly one million rupees, police said.
Frere police said Ghaniul Haq was returning to his office in his car when two motorcyclists held him hostage at gunpoint as he stopped his car at a traffic light near Mehran Hotel.
The police said the bandits snatched Rs900,000 from the victim who was also armed with a licensed pistol. They said the dacoits became jittery when they saw their victim armed and opened fire on him. The fatally wounded man was taken to the nearby Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said that a single bullet hit the victim’s face from a point blank range and it went through his jaw.
The victim, father of five, was the resident of New Chali. Police believed that the culprits were chasing the victim since he withdrew the money from the bank.
The police have registered a murder-cum-robbery case against unknown bandits on the complaint of Badam Gul, a co–worker of the victim.
