TTP ‘arrests’ 2 intelligence operatives in Mohmand
GHALANAI: Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand Agency commander Omar Khalid said on Monday that he has ‘arrested’ 80 activists of the Shah Sahib group, along with two intelligence personnel.
Speaking to reporters by telephone from an undisclosed location, he said that the Taliban would reveal the identities of the intelligence personnel to the media after they had completed their investigation. He said that the Mohmand Agency Taliban had suspended their peace talks with the government, adding that they would cease their attacks on government officials when the government stopped arresting their people at checkposts.
Referring to Monday’s expiry of Baitullah Mehsud’s ultimatum demanding that the NWFP government resign, Khalid said that he was ready to wage war against the NWFP government on the TTP chief’s orders.
The Mohmand Agency TTP commander said that he would release the 80 captive members of the Shah group only after Mehsud talked with the leaders of the Lashkar-e-Tayyaba and assured him that they would peacefully leave the agency.
Khalid said that his men had killed eight men of the Shah group, adding that two of the bodies were still lying in the Khuwazai Mountains. He also said that it had been mistakenly reported that a Shariah court had executed Shah Sahib and his deputy, adding that they had actually been killed during the clashes.
Separately, Jaish-e-Islami Pakistan Bajaur Agency chief Wali Rehman demanded that Baitullah Mehsud initiate an inquiry into the Mohmand Agency clashes and punish the group found responsible for instigating the fighting.
