3 cops suspended in Pir Mahal case
LAHORE: Punjab Police Inspector General Shaukat Javed on Sunday suspended and ordered to initiate an inquiry against Barki DSP Arif Rasheed, Barki SHO Sub-Inspector Zahid Nawaz on the charge of torturing protesters during a demonstration against the death of a teacher in a police encounter in Pir Mahal.
Addressing a high-level meeting of senior officers in Sargodha, he directed police officials to arrest criminals, abolish crime and provide justice to the people.
He appreciated the role of religious scholars in controlling sectarianism in the province. He said in the coming months, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif would announce a raise in the salaries of various police departments.
