CJ orders speedy trial of child rape accused
LAHORE: Lahore High Court Chief Justice (CJ) Sayed Zahid Hussain on Tuesday took suo motu notice of the frequent adjournments of a seven-year-old girl’s rape case and directed the trial court to dispose of the case within the shortest possible time.
The chief justice on Tuesday issued these directions on a news report appearing in a section of the press on July 27 wherein Tayyaba’s mother Nusrat Bibi had appealed to him to issue directions to Ferozewala Additional District and Sessions Judge Qamar Ijaz to hold speedy trial of the accused. On March 11, Zubair, Talha, Muzamil and Muzaffar allegedly raped Tayyaba in Sidhanwali village of Ferozewala when she was returning to home from a school. According to the news report, Tayyaba’s mother Nusrat said that the accused were pressuring her to withdraw the case. She said that she would not be able take a long stand against the accused as she had been forced to leave the village whereas the accused family was still living there. She said that she was a poor woman and had not money to reach the court. Nusrat on Tuesday thanked the chief justice for issuing directions for the trial court. She said that she had full confidence in the judiciary and that the accused would soon be brought to justice. She said that she never expected that her appeal would be accepted so soon.
