Karachi: Flourmill owner jailed
KARACHI: The owner of Lyallpur flourmills has been sentenced to three years in jail for hoarding 8,000 100 kg bags of wheat at a warehouse located inside his flourmill.
Around two and a half months earlier, the Sindh Food Minister Nawabzada Mir Nadir Ali Khan Magsi and Sindh food secretary had received information regarding the hoarding by Dawood, the owner of Lyallpur flourmills. The authorities had raided the flourmill in Shershah. Sindh Food Department arrested Dawood and registered a case under the Food Grain License Control Order-1957 and Food Stuff Control Act-1958.
The Judicial Magistrate, West-II, sentenced Dawood to three years imprisonment and fined him Rs 10,000. The court directed the SFD to confiscate the wheat as government property and stated that if Dawood failed to pay the fine, he would undergo further 6 months imprisonment.
