Peshawar: Woman acquitted in drug pushing case
PESHAWAR: A special court (control of narcotics) on Friday acquitted a suspected female drug pusher who was earlier granted bail over four months ago but could not be set free as she failed to produce the required sureties.
The court presided over by additional district and sessions judge, Khalid Khan, observed that the prosecution could not prove its case against the defendant, Ms Sonia, and the evidence on record did not connect her with the offence.
The court had earlier on Jan 14 granted bail to the woman on medical ground as she was in advanced stage of pregnancy. The court had placed condition of furnishing two sureties of Rs100,000 each.
However, as she could not arrange the sureties, she had to remain behind bars and in the meantime she also gave birth to a child.
