People kill bandit in Federal B. Area
Karachi: A suspected bandit, who was fleeing along with his alleged accomplice after a bungled robbery, was shot dead by people in Federal B. Area, police and witnesses said. They said that two dacoits held a woman hostage at gunpoint and attempted to deprive her of her bangles near Nighat Naseem Clinic in the Block 9 at around 11.45am.
The witnesses said that the bandits started running away when people were attracted to the scene. They said people also ran after the fleeing dacoits and someone shot and hit one of them.
The witnesses said that the police also reached the spot shortly after the shooting and shifted the fatally wounded suspect to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Hospital sources said the man had received two bullets in his lower torso and died due to profuse bleeding.
They said the accomplice of the suspect fled the scene. However, the police claimed that the dacoit was killed in a shootout with the police.
An assistant sub-inspector of the Jauharabad police said that a police party, patrolling the area, had reached the spot when the dacoits were fleeing.
He said the fleeing dacoits opened fire when they saw the police party approaching them. He said the police also returned fire and hit one of the fleeing suspects.
The police said the 22-year-old suspect, who had identified himself as Mohammed Asif, son of Mohammed Akhtar, was the resident of Gulistan-i-Jauhar.
Jauharabad police registered a case (FIR 130/2008) against the absconding suspect under Section 394 and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code on behalf of the state.
