Lahore: IG suspends four policemen for detaining citizens illegally
LAHORE: Inspector General (IG) of Punjab Police Shaukat Javed on Wednesday suspended two sub-inspectors (SI) and two assistant sub–inspectors (ASI) for illegal confinement of citizens, according to an official statement issued on Thursday.
The IG has also directed registration of first information reports (FIR’s) against the officials. Deputy Inspector General (Inspection and vigilance) Zafar Iqbal Qureshi deputed Superintendent Police (SP) Syed Dilawar Abbas to hold an inquiry into the illegal detention of citizens by police in Lodhran, Bahawalnagar and Pakpattan. The inquiry report confirmed the reports of illegal confinement committed by SI Muhammad Wakeel, SI Zawar Hussain, ASI Munir Ahmad and ASI Nazir Ahmed. DIG Qureshi submitted a report based on the findings of the inquiry officer to the IG.
The IG directed Qureshi to take stern action and to implement a system of police station inspections in an effective manner to make sure that no individual is arrested without lawful justification.
