Rawalpindi: 9 of 12 absconding deportees arrested
RAWALPINDI: Nine of the 12 Pakistanis who fled from the custody of Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at Islamabad International Airport Sunday night after deportation from Turkey have been arrested, while the remaining three are still at large.
Police sources told Daily Times that FIA Immigration Cell gave 15 deportees in the custody of FIA Investigation Cell for investigation soon after their arrival at the airport. They were deported for traveling on fake documents.
The deportees were kept in a cell at the FIA building near Faizabad. However, at 9 pm on Sunday night 12 managed to escape by breaking the window of the cell. Following their escape, FIA teams fanned out across the town and managed to arrest nine deportees, while three are still at large.
The sources said that the top bosses of the investigating agency had taken a strict notice of the incident and directed that teams be sent to the respective hometowns of the absconding deportees.
New Town police have registered separate cases against the 12 accused identified as Yasir Arafat, Sialkot; Mudasir Shahzad, Mandi Bahaud Din; Muhammad Usman, Nankana Sahib; Muhammad Yousaf, Sialkot; Bashir Hussain and Saleem, Gujranwala; Imran, Nasir Mehmood and Qamar Waqas, Gujarat; Nasir Abdul Nasir, Sialkot; and Intazar Hussain.
Teams have been sent to the hometowns of the absconders identified as Nasir Mehmood, Qamar Waqas and Intazar Hussain.
Pleading anonymity, a New Town Police Station police official confirmed the incident and said that cases had been registered against the absconders.
He said nine deportees escaped from the FIA custody and all of them had been re-arrested from the adjacent areas of Faizabad. He said the accused had been sent to Adiala Jail.
