Lahore: 20 dacoits, kidnappers arrested
LAHORE: Cantt division CIA has arrested 20 members of two gangs of dacoits and kidnappers. Investigation SSP Zulfiqar Hameed claimed this while addressing a press conference on Wednesday. However, one of the accused, present at the press conference, contradicted the police claim and said that the police called him from his house and later implicated him in different cases. When the SSP was asked about it, he smiled and said all criminals always took this plea.
Giving details, the SSP said that a team arrested five persons involved in kidnapping for ransom. The accused include Sheikh Iqbal, Imran, Shabir, Sadiq and Javed.
He said the accused kidnapped a trader’s 10-year-old son Hafiz Ahmad Naveed from Shadman on July 21, and demanded Rs 20million from the victim’s family. They released the victim after getting Rs 1.3 million. Police recovered Rs 9 lakh, a car and weapons from the accused.
The SSP said that another police team arrested 15 dacoits involved in 32 crimes of heinous nature including murders, dacoities and encounters.
They were identified as Salmat Ali, Abdul Shakoor, Samiullah, Aftab, Maqsood, Naveed, Abdul Sattar, Naeem, Tariq, Asghar Ali, Sajjad Hussain, Safdar Ali, Umair Ali, Shehryar and Mushtaq. Police recovered four cars, Rs 5 lakh, two laptops, 13 cell phones and arms from them.
Meanwhile, Capital City Police Officer Pervaiz Rathore has announced cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the police teams.
