Rawalpindi: 2 police officers booked
RAWALPINDI: Former SI (Investigation Officer) New Town Police Ghulam Ghous Cheema and Sub–Inspector Muneeb Iqbal of CIA Staff Jhelum have been booked for misappropriating stolen property. One, Davis D. Jacab appeared before the Regional Police Officer (Rawalpindi) Nasir Khan Durrani and lodged a complaint that in 1998 a dacoity was took place in his house and property worth Rs2.4 million was stolen. He reported the mater to Inspector Ghulam Ghous Cheema the then SHO PS New Town who had refused to register the case.
Later, in May 1999 Sub–Inspector Muneeb lqbal of CIA Jhelum had arrested a gang of dacoits who had admitted the commission of dacoity at the house of Davis. The case property was also recovered and shown to Jacab. However, the present investigating officer refused to hand over the case property to the owners on the grounds that no FIR was registered at any police station. On this, the complainant again approached the high ups for registration of case.
This time again the then SHO (New Town) refused to honour his request and also threatened him to get a fake case registered under section 295–C. On this the complainant left the country in fear of police action. After ten years he again came back and lodged a fresh complaint with the RPO. Nasir Khan Durrani detailed SSP/RIB Muhammad Zariat Kiani to probe the allegations who after in depth probe held the contention of the complainant as correct and also highlighted the highhandedness of police officials.
On this the RPO ordered to get the case registered against the police officials and also placed one Sub–Inspector Muneeb lqbal of Jhelum district under suspension. Muhammad Ghous Cheema the then Inspector SHO (New Town) has already retired but he would face the criminal charges.
