Islamabad: 6 arrested, looted property recovered
ISLAMABAD: The Margalla Police and Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) arrested six gangsters involved in looting the house of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas, the owner of Centaurus Project. The police arrested the gangsters and recovered gold, diamond and pearl ornaments as well as cash and weapons used during the rampage, said IGP (Islamabad) Syed Asghar Raza Gardezi while addressing a press conference here in the auditorium of Rescue–15 Tuesday.
A gang of seven dacoits had looted the house of Sardar Tanveer Ilyas in Sector F-8/4, Islamabad after injuring security guard Muhammad Sheraz and holding the 14 people hostage including Sardar’s mother, wife, sister-in-law, sisters, daughters and children at gunpoint, the IGP said.
The bandits separating cooks Farman Ali and Rashid Khan, gardener Ghazanfar Abbas, sweeper Danial Masih, uncle Muhammad Idrees and a housewife in a room and deputed two bandits to watch them and started looting the house. Meanwhile, Sardar Tanveer’s grandfather Muhammad Sharif entered the house along with his driver Muhammad Bashir and Muhammad Saghir when the rampage was going on. Consequently, the gunmen held them too. He said the gangsters collected gold, diamond and pearl ornaments to the tune of Rs20 million and Rs500,000 cash and fled away.
He said that after the incident, two teams were constituted to probe the matter. The first team was comprising ASP (Margalla Circle) Sarfaraz Virk, SHO (Margalla) Naeem Iqbal and sub–inspectors Shaukat Ali and Muhammad Akram while the second team was headed by DSP (CIA) Bashir Ahmad Noon, Inspector CIA Rana Allah Bux, Zil–e-Hussain (SI) and ASIs Abdul Hafiz, Azhar Mehmood and Khuda Dad.
The teams started investigation by adopting conventional policing and using scientific methods and collected details about the recently released inmates from jail and started tracing clue about the criminals’ gang, he maintained.
The detectors gathered tips from Peshawar that Usama Manzar Hussain-led gang of dacoits was active in Rawalpindi and Islamabad and the police team finally traced the locations of the ringleader and his aides and hunt them down in Sector G-9 when they were getting ready for another hit in Islamabad,” the IGP said.
The gangster later identified as Usama Manzar Hussain (ringleader) resident of Mughalabad, Rawalpindi; Zulfiqar Ali (Adiala Road), Ghulam Abbas (Hafizabad), Rohail Bhatti (Barha Road near Army Quarters Peshawar), Khurram Abbas (Chongi No. 20 Rawalpindi) and Amar Rafiq Siddiquei (Tahli Mohri, Rawalpindi) while one of their aides, Nasir Mehmood, (Lahore); managed to escape from the scene. He said that six pistols were also recovered from their possession.
The IGP said the gangsters are involved in heinous crimes and wanted to Rawalpindi and Islamabad police in dacoity cases. He said that Usama was involved in looting a moneychanger in China Market and he was wanted to Gujranwala Police in many cases, while Zulfiqar was wanted to Rawalpindi Police in seven cases of armed dacoities.
The representatives of business community and Centaurus Project as well as political figures were present on the occasion appreciated the performance of police.
