Peshawar: NAB files reference against 12 officials
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), NWFP, is investigating against 12 officials of the Forest Department after filing reference with the Accountability Court for their alleged connivance in illegal sale of timber. The NAB had filed reference against range forest officer Zia Mohammad, forester Muhammad Maqbool, forest guards Muhammad Anwar and Qari Ahmad Rizwan, Chairman Joint Forest Management Committee (JFMC) Gul Sanobar as well as Haji Abdul Wadood, Haji Talezar, Haji Hujjam Khel, Umaraz, and Timber Contractors Gul Faraz, Qasim Khan, nazim Battagram tehsil Khanzada Zafar Ali and Ghulam Haider.
The accused were said to be mixing a large volume of illegally cut timber with genuine timber of JFMC. They said timber was stocked at depots located in remote areas of Pashto Union Council of Allai tehsil. The evidence collected during an investigation established the accused fraudulently mixed a total of 110,202 feet illegal timber with genuine timber, causing loss of Rs56.577 million to the exchequer. On completion of investigation, a reference has been filed in Accountability Court Peshawar against the accused.
