Karachi: Robbers beaten to death identified
KARACHI: The two robbers who were beaten to death by the public late Tuesday night were identified on Wednesday as Saleem Baig and Raziq. Their bodies were handed over to their family members after legal formalities, Shadman Town Supervisory Police Officer (SPO) Pervez Akhtar said. Late Tuesday night, Riaz Saeed and his wife were going home on their motorbike after shopping at the Erum Plaza Shopping Centre within the Taimuria police limits. En route, they were intercepted by two dacoits on a motorbike at around 12:15am.
Saeed resisted, and the bandits shot at him in response. They missed, however, and the couple shouted for help. Passersby rushed to their aid and somehow overpowered the culprits. They then proceeded to beat them up. Some people also used sticks and rods.
The area police attempted to disperse the crowd but the enraged public became unruly. The police resorted to aerial firing and rescued the bandits who were in a critical condition. The two died on the way to the Abbassi Shaheed Hospital. The motorcycle used by them bore a fake number plate. Two separate FIRs were lodged at the Taimuria police station in this regard.
