Islamabad: Bid to smuggle flour bags foiled
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) administration Monday foiled an attempt to smuggle flour bags in the jurisdiction of Golra Police Station and arrested a gang of ‘atta’ smugglers, the DC office said. CDA Magistrate Saqib Majeed during a special checking in the Golra area seized a truck loaded with 400 flour bags, being smuggled to other areas, and arrested the accused. The Golra Police registered the case and started investigation.
Later, on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Amer Ali Ahmed, the seized flour bags were distributed in the local community of Golra at the rate of Rs290. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Amer Ali Ahmed has constituted 14 teams, headed by CDA magistrates, for price checking during the month of Ramazan.
The DC said these teams had further intensified anti-profiteering drive and enhanced the vigilance to ensure the availability of food items at controlled rate in the open market. He said special teams during surprise checking in different markets of the capital city had imposed fines worth Rs200,000 on the profiteers for not displaying the rate list and over charging.
