Karachi: Accused in blast targeting SP Khattab remanded
KARACHI: The accused in the case of a bomb blast targeting Lyari Town Police Officer (TPO) SP Omer Khattab was remanded to police custody till September 15 by Anti Terrorism Courts Justice Karachi Administrative Judge Khawaja Naveed Ahmed. Earlier, the accused, Zeeshan Ali Shaikh, was produced before the judge and a fourteen–day physical remand, till September 21, was sought. He was booked in a case registered under sections 3/4 of the Explosives Act, Section 7 of the Anti Terrorism Act, 324/109/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code, on a complaint filed by Constable Cloid Micheal, driver of SP Khattab.
Micheal maintains that as soon as Khattab left in the official mobile, a blast occurred in a cycle parked alongside the footpath on Mubarak Shaheed Road, in front of Faisal Plaza and Saddar Police Station.
The incident occurred at 11:35 a.m. and reported at 16:15 p.m. Micheal also stated in his statement that he saw two persons fleeing the scene on a motorbike and said that he could identify them if they were brought before him. Seeking remand, the investigating officer, without naming any group, maintained that the accused belonged to a defunct terrorist outfit and had confessed to have been monitoring Khattab’s movement. One reason cited for physical custody of the accused was the recovery of technology used in the blast.
Interestingly, the remand papers state that Sheikh was arrested on September 5, from the vicinity of Gabol Park, Lyari and the arresting police patrol recovered 100 rods of charas and a T.T pistol from his possession.
