Rawalpindi: Truck with 500kg of explosives hijacked
RAWALPINDI: A truck carrying huge quantity of explosive material was hijacked along with two riders from Taxila on Monday, police sources said. The container, a mini–truck, was transporting over 500kg of explosives material from Faisalabad to Taxila when it was intercepted by unknown persons. Police suspected some terrorist outfit behind the hijacking incident.
The captors later demanded Rs5 million as ransom for safe release of the two kidnapped persons. Sources said a sealed mini–truck (FDX-2420) was going to Taxila to supply explosive material to owners of stone-crushing machines for blowing rocks when a gang of criminals intercepted them, adding the captors took them towards Peshawar.
“Apparently, this is not a case of kidnapping for ransom,” police detectors said. Intelligence agencies have started separate investigations to make inroads into the terrorist outfit, sources said, adding law enforcing agencies have been put on high alert to counter possible terrorism.
