Karachi: Robbers jump from 3rd floor with mob on tail
KARACHI: The police managed to rescue two alleged robbers after they jumped from the third floor of a building to escape a mob screaming for their blood. The incident took place Tuesday at Taqi Manzil near Peoples Football Stadium. The two men – Ram Jee and Ashok – got into the building by posing as plumbers and tried to rob 3rd floor resident Abid Ali’s home. There was a fight, however, and the men stabbed Abid Ali when he resisted. The screams brought neighbours out and they blocked the building’s entrance, leaving the men no choice but to jump from the third flood.
Police arrived at the scene after someone called 15. The mob was ready to burn the men alive, including a seriously injured Ram Jee, said Risala officer Sarfaraz. The people demanded that the police hand the men over and even threatened the law enforcers. But the police took them away.
The mob followed the police and reached the police station and kept chanting slogans. It was only when local PPP leader Habib Jan arrived that they were persuaded to leave. Police have registered FIRs No. 120/08, 121/08 and 122/08 against the crowd and the robbers.
