Karachi: Karsaz blasts
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday disposed of a petition of the Pakistan People Party’s (PPP) against the constitution of an inquiry tribunal probing the Karsaz bomb blasts after the dissolution of the tribunal by the Sindh government. The PPP, through its Sindh President Qaim Ali Shah, had challenged the constitution of the inquiry tribunal and the appointment of Justice (retd) Ghous Mohammad as its head.
The tribunal was probing the incident that left more than 150 people including PPP activists and policemen dead and more than 500 others wounded in twin bomb blasts at a PPP rally near Karsaz on October 18, 2007.
Provincial law officer Abdul Fateh Malik informed the SHC’s division bench, comprising Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali and Justice Salman Ansari, that the Sindh government had withdrawn its notification regarding the constitution of the inquiry tribunal and the latter has been dissolved. After statement of the AAG, the petitioner’s counsel Hyder Ali Sundrani did not press the petition and the court has disposed of the petition as not pressed.
