Rawalpindi: Robbery bid foiled: 4 citizens awarded for bravery
RAWALPINDI: Regional Police Officer (RPO) Nasir Khan Durrani on Friday awarded commendation certificates of class–II to four citizens for showing extraordinary bravery and courage in retaliation against a robbery attempt made by a four-member gang in Westridge police precincts. According to a press statement issued on Friday, the certificates were given away to Muhammad Imran, Muhammad Nawaz, Muhammad Akhtar and Haji Zahid Ali during a ceremony held at the RPO office. Member National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmad and area notables were present on the occasion. Addressing the ceremony, the RPO said law had empowered people to defend themselves provided they had a reasonable apprehension that attacker(s) could hurt or kill them.
The gangsters had held a passerby Imran at gunpoint on midnight of September 9. Imran was injured when he offered resistance to the gang.
Using Imran as a shield, the gangsters intruded into house of his uncle, Asif, and tried to make off with valuables and cash. At the same instance, Asif resorted to firing, while female inmates of the house to hue and cry.
Upon hearing gunshots, the area people rushed to the crime scene and opened fire on the gangsters. As a result, Shakoor Khan, one of the gangsters, was killed, while his accomplice Muhammad Anwar injured. Later, both people and police chased the robbers and arrested the injured dacoit.
