Lahore: Arrest warrants for witnesses in girl’s rape case
LAHORE: Additional District and Sessions Judge Qamar Ijaz on Saturday issued fresh arrest warrants for a doctor and other three prosecution witnesses for not recording their statements in the rape case of a seven–year–old orphan girl. The judge is holding trial of rape accused Zubair who, according to the prosecution, had sexually assaulted seven–year–old Tayyaba on March 11, 2008, with abetment of Talha, Muzammal and Muzaffar.
On the previous date of hearing, the court had issued arrest warrants for the witnesses, including Dr Abid of the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Mureedke, a sub–inspector (Investigations) and a Moharrar of the Narang Mandi Police Station. Although, the sub–inspector appeared before the court on Saturday but his statement could not be recorded due to non-availability of the accused counsel. For rest of witnesses, who did not appear, the court issued fresh warrants.
The court had already recorded the statements of five witnesses, including victim Tayyaba, a lady doctor who conducted victim’s medical examination, and the victim’s mother. A panel, comprising the Free Legal Assistance and Settlement Chairman Sheikh Anis A A Saudi, Mira Kantar Ali, Mian Basher Said and Iran Ali, is voluntarily contesting the minor’s case.
