Lahore: Woman set on fire by in-laws
LAHORE: A woman was seriously burnt injuries when her in-laws set her on fire over a domestic dispute in the Kot Lakhpat police precincts late on Saturday. According to the first information report (FIR) registered at the Kot Lakhpat Police Station on the complaint of the victim’s father, Salahuddin, the victim, Anam, married Adrees some two-and-a-half years back. Ever since she got married, her in-laws had been giving her trouble over various issues.
Salahuddin said that on Saturday night, Anam was involved in yet another heated argument with her sisters-in-law. He added that the three sisters, with the help of their brothers Amir, Moon, Imran, and Idrees severely tortured Anam, and then set her on fire using kerosene oil. He added that some neighbours intervened and rushed Anam to Mayo Hospital where the doctors declared her to be in a critical condition. Kot Lakhpat police registered the case on his complaint and started investigating the matter.
Investigation officer of the case, Sub–Inspector Nassrullah Khan, said that he had visited the hospital and had discussed it with the family that was accused of attempted murder. He said that the family was not interested in telling the police anything regarding the incident, and the victim was not in a condition to give a statement herself. He added that the police had, however, raided the house of Adrees to arrest the nominated accused persons, but they had already escaped. He said that the police would arrest the criminals very soon.
