Rawalpindi: ATC indicts 12 terror suspects
RAWALPINDI: Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) No–II on Tuesday framed charges against 12 suspected terrorists arrested by Sadiqabad Police from Dhoke Kala Khan. Judge Sakhi Muhammad Kahoot framed charges against Intikhab Abbasi, Abid Khan, Muhammad Ishaq, Muhammad Kabir, Qamaruzzaman, Zafar Ali, Muhammad Zameer, Muhammad Toqueer, Muhammad Sajad, Abdul Sattar, Farhan Mehmood and Arshad Mehmood. However, the accused pleaded not guilty. The court adjourned hearing into the case till October 7 to record the statements of the witnesses.
According to details, Sadiqabad police in collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Rawalpindi had arrested six suspects including Intikhab Abbasi, Abid Khan, Muhammad Ishaq, Muhammad Kabir, Qamaruzzaman and Zafar Ali from Dhoke Kala Khan, on June 6, 2008 for plotting to conduct suicide attack on high profile personalities and sensitive buildings of law–enforcement agencies.
During preliminary investigations, these suspects revealed names of their six other accomplices including Muhammad Zameer, Muhammad Toqueer, Muhammad Sajad, Abdul Sattar, Farhan Mehmood and Arshad Mehmood who were also arrested by police.
Three suspects including Abid Khan, Muhammad Ishaq and Qamaruzzaman recorded their confession statements before Judicial Magistrate Chaudhry Toufeeq Ahmad on June 24. They revealed that they had links with Baitullah Mehsood, chief commander of Taliban Tehrik Pakistan.
