7 militants arrested in Darra
KOHAT: Seven Taliban militants were arrested during a search operation in the troubled Darra Adamkhel region as the security forces started making arrangements to open the Kohat Tunnel and Kotal Pass for traffic today (Saturday). The tunnel has been closed for traffic since August 29 due to the ongoing military operation against the militants in the gun–manufacturing town. Sources in the political administration told The News that the tunnel would be opened for vehicular traffic in daytime only and remain closed at night for security reasons.
The sources added that repair work on the damaged bridges on the Indus Highway would be started soon, while diversions would be introduced near the bridges to ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Meanwhile, the security forces arrested seven militants from the Akhurwal area.
The militants, including Zakir Shah, Zafar Alam, Abdul Samad, Eid Samad, Imtiaz and Mir Alam, were shifted to an unknown location.
The security forces have taken control of the Darra town and the Kohat Tunnel and are in control of the situation.
Also, the security forces recovered heavy weapons and explosives and seized 2,000 kilogram gunpowder from the Shini village.
During the recent Darra operation, the security forces had claimed killing more than 50 militants while several security forces personnel also died.
Nine Frontier Corps personnel, kidnapped by the militants from the Kotal check-post, could not be recovered.
Sources said the militants had fled the troubled area and moved towards the Orakzai Agency.
Meanwhile, the Darra Bazaar and other markets remained closed on the 28th consecutive day Friday.
