BARA/PESHAWAR: The activists of Amr Bil Maroof Wa Nahi Anil Munkar, a tribal militia, Saturday captured a would-be suicide bomber and seized an explosives-packed vehicle in Alam Gudar area of Bara Tehsil, Khyber Agency. The explosives were meant to be used in a sabotage bid during Eidul Fitr. Moreover, during the search of the vehicle, the activists of Amr Bil Maroof, promotion of virtue and prevention of vice, and Lashkar-e-Islami (LI) came face to face and the subsequent exchange of fire left one LI activist dead and three injured.
On a tip-off, Amr Bil Maroof activists raided a house located in Alam Gudar and arrested three persons including a would-be suicide bomber and an explosives-packed coach. The militia activists arrested would-be bomber Fazle Hakeem alias Omer, son of Abdul Hakeem, of Charsadda district; Habib, his associate from the same district; and Anwar Khan, the owner of the house. The arrested persons and the vehicle were shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation of the would-be suicide bomber.
During the search operation, the LI activists reached the spot and Amr Bil Maroof men tried to stop them. However, the latter opened fire on the LI men as a result one activist of LI was killed and three were wounded.
Munsif Ali Khan, spokesman for the Amr Bil Maroof, said the suicide explosion could result in massive destruction at the Bara Eid Gah, where thousands of people including Mangal Bagh offer prayers every year.
