Karachi: Suspect’s remand extended in Saeedabad shoot–out case
KARACHI: The Administrative Judge (AJ) of the anti–terrorism courts extended the police remand of a suspect belonging to the banned Harkatul Mujahideen till October 11 in connection with a police encounter and possession of illegal weapons and explosive substance cases. Raheemullah, alias Naeem, alias Ali Hasan, was produced before the AJ, Justice Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, by the CID police amid tight security. Investigation officer Sohail Khan sought extension in police remand and interrogation has not been completed yet.
Three accomplices of Raheemullah – Noor, Masroor, and Zubair – were killed in a hideout near the KMC graveyard, Saeedabad area, on September 26. The hide out was also blown up by the suspects with a time bomb, police said.
The AJ, extending the police remand of the suspect, also directed police to allow him to meet his family while in police custody. The CID police registered case against the suspect under Section 353,324 of the PPC, Sections 3 and 4 of the Explosive Substances Act, and Section 7 of the Anti–Terrorism Act. Two separate cases of possession of illegal weapons and under the Explosive Substance Act were also registered against him.
Three policemen including DSP Osman Asghar, Wajid Ali, and Mehmood Khan were injured in the shoot–out. According to the CID, three Russian–made hand grenades, two remote control explosive devices, two bell switches, two circuit switches, eight self–made detonators, two detonators, five fan condensers, 10 kilogrammes of explosive substance including aluminum powder with nails, ball bearings, one bomb with 3 detonators, and one suicide jacket. The police remand of Raheemullah was also extended in the case pertaining to the transporter’s kidnapping and murder.
