Karachi: Outlawed outfits’ arms supplier held
KARACHI: The Crime Investigation Department (CID) has arrested a man who is allegedly a supplier of arms for banned religious organizations after an encounter in Clifton and they claim to have recovered weapons from his possession. Upon receiving information about some men traveling in a taxi, JL-5326, a CID police party arrived near Kharkar Chowrangi in Clifton on Friday evening.
There were four men in the taxi and when the police signaled to them to stop, the men opened fire at the police party, SSP Fayyaz Khan told Daily Times. The police arrested one man, identified as Noor Sharif, 42, after a brief encounter and the others managed to escape under the cover of fire.
Khan added that according to the initial investigation, the arrested man is an arms dealer by profession, who used to work for an outlawed religious organization. More information cannot be disclosed, said Khan.
Five Kalashnikov guns, three 9mm pistols and 2,500 rounds were recovered during the search of his flat, Khan added.
