Karachi: CID arrests 2 arms suppliers
KARACHI: The staff of the Crimes Investigation Department (CID) has arrested two criminals who were allegedly supplying automatic weapons to various militant outfits, including Lashkar–e-Jhangvi (LJ) and the Taliban. The police also recovered arms and a large number of Sub–Machine Guns bullets from them. SSP Mohammad Fayyaz Khan of the CID, Sindh, said that the police was tipped that a gang of arms suppliers was visiting Karachi to supply arms through an intercity bus, Macca Coach, in the Boat Basin area.
The police were deputed for surveillance of the place and soon the coach bearing number P–8610 appeared, it was stopped by the CID personnel and during checking caught two persons identified as Omer Hayat and Amjad. During the search of their bags, the CID staff recovered 6,000 Sub-Machine Gun (SMG) rounds and two foreign-made pistols from their possession. The accused were taken to the CID unit for interrogation.
During the investigation it was discovered that the two arms suppliers were the associates of Noor Sharif (an arms supplier from Dara Adam Khel recently caught by the CID). SSP Khan said that the accused had links with various militant outfits, including the LJ and the Taliban.
