Rawalpindi: Jail doctor charged with inmate’s torture
RAWALPINDI: Saddar Bairooni Police on Friday booked a doctor and other staff of Adiala Jail for torturing to death an elderly prisoner, it’s learnt. On September 15, Zafar Iqbal had moved District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Mehdi Khan complaining that Dr Sultan along with jail staff and a prisoner, Lashkar Khan, brutally tortured his father, Ghulam Haider, kept in Adiala Jail in a murder case. He said his father later died of injuries at District Headquarters Hospital (DHQ). Iqbal said Lashkar Khan had avenged his niece’s murder by killing his father.
ACP arrests ‘corrupt’ official: The Anti–Corruption Police (ACP) on Friday arrested an officer of the Agriculture Department red-handed in the jurisdiction of RA Bazaar Police Station, the police told Daily Times.
They said that Nazar Hussain, a resident of Marian Kalan, informed the ACP that Aziz Aslam, an official of the Agriculture Department, was demanding Rs 18,000 bribe from him in return for a favour. After negotiations, Aslam agreed to accept Rs 4,000 bribe from Hussain, the police said.
They said that the ACP arrested Aslam in the presence of Judicial Magistrate Ahmad Masood Janjua and Inspector Amjad Shahzad while he was taking bribe from Hussain. Four stamped bills were also recovered from Aslam’s possession, the police added.
