Peshawar: ‘200 suspected terrorists arrested’
PESHAWAR: Security forces have arrested around 200 suspected foreign terrorists in the last two days and intelligence agencies have been ordered to interrogate the young suspects, the Pakistan Army said on Saturday. “Some 168 alleged militants apparently of Uzbek and Afghan nationalities were arrested during the last two days from various areas of NWFP,” a statement by the military read, as a group of journalists were shown the detained suspects. Upto 38 suspected foreign terrorists were arrested by the police and Frontier Corps on Thursday in Darra Adam Khel while 130 others were arrested on Friday, the statement read. The media were shown the suspects at a military detention centre in Peshawar.
Many suspects were as young as 15 years and few were as old as 40. The suspects started weeping as reporters entered the room where the detained men were seated on the ground with their backs to the wall. “Apprehended foreigners who are without any legal documents are being interrogated by security forces to ascertain more details on their activities,” the statement said. One young suspect said, “I am innocent. I am not terrorist .. I am a carpet weaver.”
