Lahore: Officials caught accepting bribes
LAHORE: The Anti–Corruption Establishment (ACE) on Wednesday arrested Patwari Halqa Karan Tariq Mahmood for accepting gratification. The ACE also arrested Abdul Jabbar Khan who was involved in selling his brother’s property against a bogus power of attorney. According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Directorate General, Muhammad Asghar, a resident of Karan Kay village located in Cantonment Area, lodged a complaint to the ACE director as he had attempted to avail the facility of loan from the Agriculture Development Bank but Mahmood Kay refused to issue the passbook without bribe.
ACE Circle Officer Syed Zubair Akhlaque, in a raid conducted under the supervision of Special Judicial Magistrate Ghulam Mustafa, arrested Mahmood who was accepting Rs 5,000 from the complainant as gratification. Separately, the ACE also registered cases against Gujranwala District Accounts Officer Nazim Hussain Dogar along with two other officials for accepting bribe to clear the pay bills.
According to a press release issued by the Public Relations Directorate General, the Gujranwala Literacy Executive District Officer (EDO) lodged a complaint with the District Co–ordination Officer (DCO) regarding the Gujranwala District Accounts Office charging Rs 1,000 per employee to clear their pay bills. After a thorough inquiry, Nazim Hussain Dogar, Senior Auditor Muhammad Riaz and District Additional Officer (DAO) Liaqat Ali were held responsible for receiving bribes.
