Rawalpindi: Police asked to present accused cop in rape case
RAWALPIND: An additional district and sessions judge directed police to investigate why an assistant sub–inspector (ASI), the main accused in a gang–rape case, had not appeared before the court here on Wednesday. Two other accused in the case, Muhammad Bilal and Muhammad Sadiq, were present in the court. The court directed police to produce the ASI on the next date of hearing on November 11. The Airport Police Station had registered a gang–rape case against ASI Ilyas Kalyar, Constable Muhammad Bilal and Constable Muhammad Sadiq on September 4, 2005.
The three police officials allegedly raped a married woman, Abida Parveen, aged 22, resident of Dhoke Chaudhrian, Scheme III. The accused fled from the scene after allegedly committing the crime. Later they got bail from the court, but one of them, ASI Ilyas Kalyar, was not appearing before the court on dates. The lawyer of ASI Ilyas Kalyar told the court that his client was arrested in another case in Faisalabad. Due to this reason, he could not appear before the court.
