Peshawar: ATC frames charges against accused in Sherpao attack case
PESHAWAR: An anti–terrorism court (ATC) on Friday framed charges against an accused arrested in a suicide bomb attack in Charsadda targeting the then federal interior minister Aftab Ahmad Sherpao. Police produced the accused Hafiz Mohammad Saeed amid tight security before Anti–Terrorism Court Peshawar’s judge Shamsher Ali Khan who framed charges against the accused after he denied of his being a part of the attack on Pakistan People’s Party–Sherpao chief in his home district. The judge fixed November 5, 2008 date for recording evidences in the case. The judge on Wednesday had also declared the defunct Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan’s chief Baitullah Mehsud and two other alleged militants Shahjehan and Zubair Swati as proclaimed offenders for masterminding the suicide attack against Sherpao. The incident had occurred on April 28, 2007 when a suicide bomber blew himself up near the vehicle of Aftab Sherpao after he addressed a public meeting at Station Koroona in Charssada. While Sherpao and his son Sikander Sherpao had survived the attack, around 34 persons were killed and 50 others injured.
