Karachi: 2 arms smugglers held, weapons recovered
KARACHI: The Sohrab Goth police have arrested five men, including two alleged arms smugglers, on Monday in separate incidents and claim to have recovered weapons. The first raid was on an inter-city coach from Peshawar at Al-Asif Square, Superhighway, where the two arms suppliers, Mohammad Hayat and Gul Zaman, were arrested. They hail from Peshawar and smuggled weapons to Karachi from Peshawar. Four Kalashnikovs and 1,600 rounds were recovered from their possession. “We conducted a raid on a bus that had arrived from Peshawar on information we received and arrested the two men and recovered weapons,” SHO Ejaz Rajper told Daily Times. During the initial course of interrogation, the men confessed that Munir Khan Afridi, who also hails from Peshawar, is their ringleader and sent weapons to Karachi through inter-city buses. They have been involved in smuggling weapons to professional criminals in Karachi.
In another incident, the police arrested three alleged street criminals after an encounter. The arrested men are Siyal Khan, Captan and Badar. Their arrests were made after they robbed a mobile phone shop in Ayub Goth, Sohrab Goth, although one man, Zaman Shah, managed to escape, said SHO Rajper.
