Lahore students held under ATA released
LAHORE: The two students of GC University here, who were arrested on the charge of anti–terrorism, released from jail late last night on the orders of the Chief Justice, Lahore High Court (LHC), while LHC Justice Mian Najmuz Zaman has been asked to conduct an enquiry into the matter. Government College University students had staged a peaceful protest against the decision of rustication from the University due to absence on October 28, when at the behest of University Registrar, police had registered a case against 9 students under Anti–Terrorism Act (ATA) and 16 MPO including six different sections besides the police had arrested 2 students raiding their houses and they were presented in the Anti–Terrorism Court.
Later, the parents of the arrested students met with the Punjab Chief Minister, Shahbaz Sharif and apprised him of their children’s innocence, while the CM got the anti–terrorism and other grave charges against the students deleted. Thereafter, LHC CJ taking suo motto notice of the release of the students forthwith.
