Karachi: 7 shot dead in separate incidents
KARACHI: Seven people were killed in different parts of the city on Monday, police and witnesses said. The Site police said two people were shot dead by bandits in separate robberies. They said 50–year–old Shakil, son of Haji Shireen Khan, was fatally wounded by a bandit at his house in Metroville. The victim was rushed to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds. Sources at the medico–legal section told Dawn that the victim received two bullet wounds — one in his right hand and the other in the abdomen — from a point blank range as both the bullets pierced through the body.
The police registered a case (787/2008) against an unknown bandit on the complaint of the victim`s son, Adnan. He told the police that an armed man barged into his house in the morning and held the inmates at gunpoint. He said his father, a factory worker, struggled with the intruder as he tried to relieve him of his Rado wrist watch. The dacoit shot at him and fled, the victim`s son said.
A shop owner was shot dead by two bandits near Honda Company in Site.
The police said Rafique, son of Mohammed Siddique, was waylaid by two bandits on a motorcycle. They killed the 32–year–old resident of Pathan Colony, Baldia Town, before fleeing.
In Orangi Town, a 55–year–old worker of a factory was killed.
The police said Islamuddin Lodhi, son of Umer Din, was travelling on a bus when unidentified attackers sprayed the vehicle with bullets near Rehri Pahari. They said the victim died before he could be shifted to a hospital.
In Korangi, a 28–year–old factory worker was found shot dead.
The police said that the body of Raja Mubarak Jamali was lying at a desolate place in I-Area. The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a postmortem examination, they said, adding that three empties were also found near the body.
The police registered a murder case on the complaint of the victim`s cousin, Hashim Jamali, who named Shahzado Jamali, Karim Jamali and Pawal Jamali as suspects.
The victim went missing on Sunday night, the police said.
A 45–year–old Bengali-speaking man was shot dead in Jamali Goth, a shantytown in the limits of Sohrab Goth.
The police said that Noorul Islam, a resident of Shershah, along with his wife went to see his plot in Jamali Goth. Quoting the victim`s wife the police said she was standing with the bike some yards away when her husband was shot dead by an unidentified man.
The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Sources said the victim had received two bullets in the upper torso from a close range.
A 28–year–old factory worker was shot dead by two assailants on a motorcycle near a cinema on the busy M. A. Jinnah Road at around 7pm.
The Soldier Bazaar police said that Saeed Ahmed, son of Alauddin, was on his way on a motorcycle when he was killed. The police shifted the body to the Civil Hospital for autopsy. Hospital sources said the victim was shot a bullet to the head from a point blank range as the bullet pierced through his skull.
The police said that the victim, hailing from Quetta, was a resident of Malir Colony. However, they said, no case was registered till late as efforts were being made to locate his family.
They said the incident seemed to be motivated by a personal enmity.
In Saudabad, a 32–year–old man was killed when a pistol in his friend`s hand went off accidentally.
The police said that the victim, Zeeshan alias Moon, and Kashif were sitting at a ghee store when the pistol went off. The body was shifted to the JPMC. They said that the victim`s friend had been taken into custody and the matter was still being investigated.
