Kalaya: Baitullah Mehsud’s close aide freed
KALAYA: The authorities on Thursday released a close aide of Tehrik-e–Taliban Pakistan (TTP) chief Baitullah Mehsud in exchange for 10 security personnel, who were kidnapped in July. Baitullah Mehsud’s close aide, Maulana Rafiuddin, was freed in an exchange for 10 personnel of the security forces following successful talks between the political authorities of Orakzai Agency and militants on Thursday. A Jirga of religious scholars and tribal elders that had been negotiating between the government and militants for the past few months, held its final meeting on Thursday at the office of political agent Orakzai Agency.
The Jirga finally succeeded in convincing the two sides to swap prisoners and the exchange took place in the presence of the Jirga members. The Pakistan Army soldiers freed by militants included Lance Naik Tanveer Akhtar, Sepoy Rizwan, Sepoy Imran Ali, Sepoy Muhammad Imran, Sepoy Naseer, Sepoy Ghulam Mustafa and Hawaldar Arshad Khan.
The three freed personnel of Thall Scouts included Sepoy Shahid, Sepoy Subhan Gul and Sepoy Dawar Khan. The militants had arrested the personnel during the siege of the Doaba police station on July 10.
