Lahore: 1592 cases of violence against women reported
LAHORE: As many as 1592 cases of violence against women were reported in Punjab during the third quarter of current year. Addressing a news conference organized by Aurat Foundation here on Wednesday, the speakers urged on the need to implement the laws aimed at protecting woman against the violence. They demanded that separate women police stations should be set up in the country. Most of the violent cases were reported in Faisalabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi and Multan.
Speakers were of the view that women are not given the fundamental right to take their own decisions and if they do so, they are subjected to torture.
Honour killing, ‘Vani’, forced marriages and ‘Panchayat’ are all various fatal forms of violence against women, they said.
