Lahore: Police arrest ‘Pathar Group’ member
LAHORE: Saddar Division Investigation Police on Wednesday arrested a notorious criminal, who is a member of the Pathar (stone) Group and is involved in 34 murders and 74 cases of injuries in the city. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, during a press conference at the Investigation Headquarters Qilla Gujjar said that Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Pervez Rathore had constituted a special team to arrest the members of the Pathar Group. He said that the team had evolved a comprehensive strategy for the arrest, which had been in the works for some time. He also said that analysis revealed that the criminal came on a bicycle or foot and hit sleeping individuals on the head.
The police drew composite sketches with the help of witnesses as a result of which Muhammad Amin alias Meena was arrested. The accused had been committing these crimes for money and returned to his village, Shamsabad, after every attack. During interrogation, the accused confessed to crimes in the areas of Kot Lakhpat, Green Town, Township, Johar Town and Sattokatla. Police officials also recovered two mobile phones, one motor pump, a bicycle and Rs 5,000 in cash from the accused. CCPO Rathore has announced the Quaid-e–Azam Police Medal, commendatory certificate and a cash prize for Superintendent Police (SP) Sarfaraz Ahmad Falki, as well as departmental promotions, cash prizes and commendatory certificates for the policemen involved in the arrest.
