Karachi: Dubai-bound passenger detained with foreign currency
KARACHI: The Special Task Force of Pakistan Customs on Thursday caught a Pakistani passenger departing for Dubai from the Karachi Airport on the charge of smuggling of foreign currency from Pakistan. The accused, Sheikh Atif, was arrested at the Jinnah Terminal of Karachi Airport before departing for Dubai on Emirates Airlines flight EK–605 on Thursday morning. On search, 71,000 Dirhams was recovered from his possession including some currency concealed in his handbag.
The special task force of the customs was recently constituted by the Collector of Customs to monitor illegal flight of foreign currency through the country’s international airports.
An FIR was lodged by the Customs against the accused on the charge of attempt of smuggling of foreign currency from the country. After taking initial remand from the Malir courts, the accused was lodged at the Investigation and Prosecution Branch of Customs for further investigation and interrogation.
