Karachi: Robber shot dead, 2 held in separate incidents
KARACHI: In a number of separate operations, police officials killed one unknown robber, arrested many culprits with weapons and recovered looted items on Tuesday. The police officials were snap checking at Marwari Goth located within the jurisdiction of Sachal Police Station. Early in the morning, they signaled to a suspicious car to stop and when it did not, they followed it. When the car was intercepted, the four men in it fired at the police personnel. The police fired back and as a result one of the men died and the rest managed to escape leaving the car behind.
The police officials recovered a pistol and a car that was stolen from New Karachi recently.
Sachal Police Station SHO Atiqur Rehman said that the dead robber was identified by various area residents who were robbed in the last couple of months. He further said that the snap checking will continue in different parts of the jurisdiction.
In another encounter near Paracha Chowk, the Shershah police arrested a robber identified as Hadi, son of Fazal Dad. During the encounter one of the officials, Banaras Khan, was injured when the culprits opened fire on the police party.
According to details, five armed robbers broke into a warehouse that belonged to Asif and stole Rs 86,000 and two mobile phones from the workers and fled. The workers shouted for help and one of the neighbors called the area police.
A mobile unit was patrolling nearby and rushed to the scene. The police party asked the thieves to surrender but they opened fire. As a result, Khan received a bullet wound to his right leg and was shifted to the hospital.
Meanwhile CID Police arrested notorious bandit Niaz alias Niazo Khoso alias Zalim Khoso after an encounter but three of his accomplices fled.
The dacoit, on whom a reward of Rs 2 million had been announced, and his accomplices were living in a hideout in the vicinity of Baldia Town Graveyard for the last few days.
On a tip off, CID SSP Fayyaz Khan and a police party raided the hideout, during which the culprits opened fire.
The police party returned fire and successfully arrested Niaz but the other three escaped.
Khan told Daily Times that Niaz belongs to district Dadu and was a notorious bandit who the Sindh police has been chasing for a long time. “The Sindh police had announced Rs 2 million as reward money for Niaz’s capture and as many as 100 FIRs were registered against him for various cases of kidnapping for ransom, robberies, threatening landlords in interior Sindh and killing various police officials to name a few,” he said.
He said that Niaz became a prominent figure after he killed his mother in a case of Kari in 1993. Later he formed a gang and started robberies on highways, sending threat letters to various landlords in Shahdadkot, Qambar, Dadu, Larkana and the surrounding areas.
The SSP said that they were expecting to arrest the rest of his gang soon and the investigation in this regard has already started.
