Nowshera: Dacoits, kidnappers strike in police uniform
NOWSHERA: A gang of armed dacoits dressed in police and paramilitary security force uniform forced their entry into the house of a wealthy Afghan refugee, took the occupants hostage and fled with 150 tolas of jewellery worth Rs3.7 million and Rs0.2 million cash while one person was kidnapped at gunpoint. Afghan refugee, Haji Rahmat Gul, while narrating details of the robbery and kidnapping, told journalists here Sunday that a gang of five armed dacoits forced into his house at Defence Officers Colony, Manki Road, Nowshera Cantonment in the evening while they were busy taking dinner along with some guests who had come from Afghanistan.
One of the gang members was wearing police uniform while another gunman was dressed in paramilitary force uniform, rest of the men were wearing white clothes with army caps, Rahmat Gul said, adding that the dacoits insulted us, the guests, kicked and punched us all. “They were constantly warning us of dire consequences, accusing us of terrorists and drug traffickers illegally staying in Pakistan”, Rahmat Gul added.
At the time of the incident, five women were present in the house. The robbers approached them and deprived them of their jewellery. Later, they also took away Fazal-e–Haq, 19, for ransom. The kidnapped Afghan is said to be from a millionaire family as his father is having a flourishing carpet business in Saudi Arabia. Police registered a case on the complaint of Haji Rahmat Gul. The incident is not the first of its kind in the district as several such robberies have been committed in the recent past.
