Karachi: Lawyers sent to jail in rape case
KARACHI: Judicial Magistrate East, Inam Ali Kalhoro, sent two lawyers to jail custody on Monday for their alleged involvement in a rape case of a Christian girl till December 3. Both brothers, Mohammed Kaukab Ziauddin and Nayyer Ziauddin were produced in the court amidst tight security. The court premises were echoing with slogans against the two lawyers, demanding cancellation of their licence to practice. However, Karachi Bar Association (KBA) President, Mehmood–ul–Hasan, came to the court premises to defend his colleagues, alleging that the girls were professionals and without their consent, it would not have happened.
The brothers had been arrested for gang-raping an 18–year–old girl who had left her Gujranwala home along with her younger sister to embrace Islam. The lawyer siblings had taken the sisters to an apartment on Allama Iqbal Road instead of the shelter home where they raped 18–year–old girl.
The Ferozabad police registered a FIR under section 365–B (kidnapping for rape), 345 (wrongful confinement), 376-B (punishment for gang–rape) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) against the two lawyers on the complaint of the rape victim.
