Karachi: SHC dismisses bail in kidnapping case
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday dismissed a bail application of a woman in kidnapping for ransom case. Ms Naila along with Adnan Ahmed is accused of kidnapping eight–year–old boy Arsalan from the Sachal area on August 13 for ransom. According to the prosecution, the accused demanded Rs1 million as ransom from the family of the abductee but they were arrested by the police and the abductee was recovered from the house of Ms Naila situated at the Scouts Colony area.
The applicant’s counsel sought bail on a humanitarian ground as the son of Naila was hospitalised. The SHC’s division bench comprising Justice Mrs Qaiser Iqbal and Justice Mehmood Alam Rizvi after hearing the arguments of the state and the applicant’s counsel observed that the case of bail is not made out and dismissed the application.
Judgment reserved: An Anti Terrorism Court (ATC), meanwhile, reserved a judgment in kidnapping for ransom case after hearing the closing arguments of the defendant and state counsel.
Mohammad Ali Was charged with kidnapping 12 years old boy Zuhair from the Soldier Bazaar area. The prosecution alleged that accused demanded Rs10 million from the abductee’s family but he was arrested by the police.
Special Public Prosecutor Mohammad Taseer argued that the prosecution has produced sufficient evidence against the accused. The prosecution placed seven witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused. The defendant’s counsel sought acquittal of his client as the prosecution could not prove its case.
The ATC headed by Judge Abdul Ghafoor Memon after hearing the closing arguments of both side counsel reserved the judgment for November 28. Two indicted: The court also indicted two gangsters in a policeman’s killing case and directed SPP to produce witnesses on December 2. Habib Rasheed and Yasir, who were charged with killing a policeman in the Garden area, denied charges and pleaded not guilty.
