Karachi: Police remand plea against students turned down
KARACHI: An administrative judge (AJ) of the anti–terrorism courts (ATC) in Karachi on Wednesday turned down a police request for remand of students under an anti–terrorism law and directed the investigation officer (IO) to obtain the same from the Magistrate concerned. Mohammad Ilyas, Jawad Haider, Faisal, Mehmood and others were produced before AJ Justice Khalid Ali Kazi by the Risala police to obtain their remand. Police had booked them on charges of arson and attempt to murder, following a clash between two students groups at the KMC Degree College Nishtar Road two days back.
The IO said that the case has been referred to the ATC by the judicial magistrate as it falls under the Anti Terrorism Act. However, the AJ rejected the police request for remand of the students observing the case did not come within the ambit of the schedule offence under the ATA and directed the police to obtain the remand from the Magistrate concerned.
