Lahore: Police arrest 557 in 10 months
LAHORE: The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) Police of the city have arrested 557 people of 133 criminal gangs in the past 10 months as part of a special campaign against criminals. The police have also recovered looted property worth Rs 142 million, and seized illegal weapons from them, according to a handout issued from the office of Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Pervaiz Rathore on Tuesday. According to the press release, the police have also arrested 992 proclaimed offenders and court absconders during this campaign and have traced 2,204 cases. Of the 2,204 cases that have been traced, 16 were of murder/armed robbery; 28 were of blind murder; 14 involved kidnapping for ransom; 38 dealt with armed robbery; 802 involved burglary; 120 dealt with robbery; 865 were of theft; and 103 dealt with other heinous crimes.
As part of the campaign, the CIA police seized 1,436 cases of illegal weapons and recovered three kalashnikovs, one stun gun, 61 rifles, 67 guns, 1,398 pistols and revolvers, 12 carbines, 551 magazines, three daggers and around 6,243 bullets from the criminals. The campaign also caught several drug dealers, registering 168 cases against 185 felons. The CIA seized around six kilogrammes of heroin; 656 kilogrammes of charas; 310g of opium; and 1,610 bottles of liquor. As part of the campaign, 196 gamblers have been arrested and 20 cases have been registered against them. The police have seized stake money worth Rs 425,000 from them. In addition, 10 notorious ringleaders of qabza groups and gangsters have also been arrested, according to the handout.
