Karachi: Man arrested for daughter`s rape
KARACHI: A 40–year–old man has been arrested for allegedly raping his teenaged daughter, who is now five months pregnant, the police said on Wednesday. The Korangi Industrial Area police said the man, who was arrested two days ago, was booked in the case (FIR 470/2008) under Section 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code for raping the 17–year–old girl on the complaint of the suspect`s wife. The Station Investigation Officer of the KIA police, Inspector Amjad Kalyar, told Dawn that the suspect, who hails from Sukkur, was a resident of Gulzar Colony in Korangi and owned a video cassette shop.
“We have obtained his physical custody for interrogation till Dec 10,” Inspector Kalyar said, adding that the suspect had admitted to committing the offence.
He said the suspect had been raping his teenaged daughter for the past two years.
The SIO said the victim`s mother was aware of her daughter`s rape by the suspect. “But the victim girl and her mother kept mum as the suspect had warned them of dire consequences in case they reported the matter to anyone,” he added.
Inspector Kalyar said that the victim`s mother took her to a doctor in the locality to have an abortion. “The doctor advised them to bring the suspect to book when he learnt about the acquaintance rape,” he said.
He said that the victim girl was sent to the medico–legal section of the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for a medical examination. According to the MLO report, he said, the girl is five months pregnant.
