Lahore: Land grabbers’ ringleader arrested
LAHORE: Sadr Division police arrested Malik Mansha Khokhar alias Bomb, the ringleader of a land grabbersí group, during a police encounter held near Hakim Chowk in the Township police limits on Friday. The accused was also a proclaimed offender and wanted by the Lahore police in more than 30 cases. The Punjab government had issued the detention orders for the arrest of Mansha while his name was also included in a list of criminals provided by the CMís Secretariat to the Lahore police. The police were conducting raids to arrest Mansha for the last several months.
On Friday noon, Sadr Division police received information that Mansha was hiding in a house near Hakim Chowk, Township, along with his sons Malik Asim and Malik Tariq and brother Malik Mushtaq. Sadr Division SP Mansoorul Haq Rana led a police team, supported by a heavy contingent of police, called from Johar Town, Township and Green Town police stations, to conduct the raid.
As the police reached near Hakim Chowk, accused Mansha, his brother and his two sons came out on the road and opened indiscriminate fire at the police, who retaliated. The accusedís brother Malik Mushtaq and sons Asim and Tariq managed to escape from the scene while the police arrested Mansha.
Meanwhile, a large number of locals gathered at the spot and lauded the police action. The locals also chanted slogans in the favour of CM Mian Shahbaz Sharif for purging the area of criminals.
SP Mansoorul Haq Rana told The News that Mansha had a bad repute in occupying properties of the poor and he was wanted by the Lahore police in more than 30 cases. He said the police managed to arrest the accused while they themselves remained unhurt. He added that around eight cases had been traced in Township against the accused, 15 in Green Town, two in Kot Lakhpat, two in Johar Town, one each in Raiwind, Naulakha and Islampura.
