Karachi: Kalia group chairman sent on judicial remand
KARACHI: Hanif Kalia, chairman of Khanani and Kalia Money Exchange Company, was sent to Central Prison, Karachi on judicial custody till December 12 by District and Sessions Judge, South, Faheem Ahmed Siddiqui on Saturday. Earlier, Hanif Kalia, who was on physical remand with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) officials, Munaf Kalia and Javed Khanani were produced before the court. Deputy Attorney General Amir Raza Naqvi, representing the FIA as Special Public Prosecutor, sought time to study the case file, citing his pre-occupation with superior courts as the reason for his inability to go through the case.
The bench, allowing the request, adjourned the hearing of the case till December 12, remanding Hanif Kalia to judicial custody, while also adjourning the hearing of bail pleas of all three accused till December 18. The court also issued notice to the state in an application filed on behalf of Munaf Kalia and Javed Khanani for better class in prison. Meanwhile Judicial Magistrate, East, Asif Ahmed, also directed the Jail Superintendent to ensure proper medical care to the accused in custody.
